Adolescent Sex Offenders- Teens Abuse Too
Many people think only adults molest children. This is not the case.
According to the FBI, juveniles were arrested for approximately 12.4% of all forcible rapes committed in 2001. Older statistics suggest that juveniles were responsible for approximately one half of all child molestation cases committed in the United States in the late 1990s. 1
In Canada, Adolescent Sex Offenders (ASO) commit 20% - 30% of the sexual offences. 2
Precursors to adult sexual offending behavior often appear in adolescence. Retrospective reports of adult offenders have indicated that sexual deviations and sex crimes begin during adolescence in about 50% of the cases.
Babysitting is cited as being a frequent arena for molestations.
There is a progression from non-violent sex crimes, like peeping toms, to more serious sexual assaults as adults. It is important not to ignore or deny lesser offenses or non contact abuse. Tolerating small violations allows the molester to continue thier abuse.
Society often labels ASO as "boys will be boys" or curiosity or even experimentation. 3
Pedophiles often talk of being attracted to kids their own age when they were younger. Boys would assume they were gay when they were attracted to other boys. But as they grew, their Age Of Attraction (AOA) did not grow with them. They continued to be sexually attracted to young boys and girls. As adults, they call themselves "boy lovers" and "girl lovers". They often talk about a life long attraction that started in early childhood. Showing that children sexually abuse as well as adults.
